Central Spanish Study Resource

My Thoughts

I love to promote that studying Spanish does not have to be strictly sitting down at a desk on your computer and reading a book in Spanish or studying grammar. However, you can learn with various methods that are more mobile. So, you can them where you are. One of the best places you can learn Spanish is at the gym. At first thought, you may assume that it is not possible but it all depends on how creative you get with your study materials. As a language learner problem solving during your learning journey is key to becoming more productive and consistent. Let’s find out how we can achieve this.

1) Review Flashcards

Using flashcards are a simple and effective way to study Spanish on the go. You can fit them in a purse, your pocket, or a small bag. All you have to do is use your warm up time on the bike, elliptical, or walk on the treadmill to easily made time to review some desired Spanish vocabulary.

2) Listening to Spanish Music

What better way to learn Spanish then through exciting, mood lifting, and energetic music from Latin America. Listening to la bachata, el merengue, or la salsa is an effective way to start memorizing words and phrases in Spanish in context through amazing rhythm and patterns. You listen to Spanish music all throughout the work out and not just when you are warming up. One thing I love to do is warm up on the bike, put a song that I am learning on my phone with the lyrics, then start reviewing them. Which then increases my listening and speaking skills when I rehearse them out loud.

3) Read a Book in Spanish

Reading a book can be very time consuming especially a Spanish book but can be done in the gym simply by reading a few pages each day. Another tactic would be to focus on one passage in Spanish and respond to questions you made for that part, focus on the characters, or just the overall plot that you have learned thus far.

4) Analyze a Recording of Yourself

I love to record myself whether that is a video or with some audio application so I can figure out what I am pronouncing wrong. Doing this repeatedly will accustom you to how you sound in Spanish. Furthermore, increasing your Spanish fluency and getting practice in before conversations with native Spanish speakers. Also, what I like to do is watch a recorded lesson that I had on Italki. Then, when I hear a word or phrase that is unfamiliar to me, I will open up the notes application and write them in there to review.

5) Learn With Duolingo

One of the best things about Duolingo is how short the lessons are to complete. The creators promote how you can learn a language with only 5 minutes a day. It offers many fun and consumable lessons with various activities to learn grammar, words, and how the language sounds. You will be filling in the blank of sentences with a word in Spanish or English translation, matching words together in both languages, choosing the best image after a Spanish word is pronounced, and much more.
