Should You Pay for a Language Learning Application?

If you have thought of buying some sort of subscription or one-time purchase for a language learning app, the only opinion that matters in regards to you paying for it is yours. I am not here to tell you that you should or should not. Neither do I think you should ever feel pressured to do so. This is extremely important to me to share with you because I understand the value of money as a language learner. We don’t want to waste our money.

From my perspective, to answer this question, it all comes down to what you perceive as valuable.

I recommend watching videos on YouTube, talking to language-learning buddies, reading articles online about the app, and looking at the subscription details before making a decision. Also, these days, many apps have a free trial that gives you a taste of the apps’ features before you pay.

This is what happened in my case. Before I bought Duolingo and Memrise subscriptions, I used the free (Duolingo) version and trial version (Memrise) before deciding they were valuable enough to pay for.

Remember, your language learning journey is in your hands, and so is your money. Do what you want to do with it and determine what is valuable enough to pay for. Myself saying I had a bad experience or another language learner online saying they had an amazing experience can be used to inform you on your purchasing decision.
